Making space for what matters

Hello

I’m Lydia, founder of Proper Place Projects, a professional organising service based in East Yorkshire.

I help people bring clarity, order and calm to the places they live and work. Alongside organisation and decluttering, I also specialise in Swedish Death Cleaning - a thoughtful, supportive approach to making intentional decisions about the things you keep.

Whether you’re simplifying your surroundings, navigating a life transition, or supporting a loved one, I bring a practical and compassionate approach to every project.

With a background in project and client management, I create clear plans, steady structure and calm support, always without judgement or pressure. My role is to help you move forward at a pace that feels right for you... making space for what matters.

What I do

If your space feels overwhelming, I’m here to help you reclaim it in a way
that feels manageable and respectful. I offer support with:

Individual or room‑by‑room organisation and decluttering

Digital decluttering (emails, files, systems)

Packing and unpacking for home or commercial moves

Swedish Death Cleaning (more on this below)

This isn’t just tidying. It’s about helping you feel lighter, clearer and more in control,
whatever stage of life you’re in. No judgement, no pressure, just putting what matters in its proper place.

How it works

1

Let's chat

We'll begin by having a free
30-minute consultation call to understand your space,
project and goals.

No commitments or cost - just a chance to connect and understand your needs.

2

Let's plan

After our call, I’ll visit your space and we can determine if any storage solutions or equipment are required, and finalise the details before we get started.

Charged at £40 per hour.

This could act as the first hour of your project session, if no/little storage solutions are required.

3

Let's go

Let the transformations begin!

I'll arrive on our chosen day with any pre-agreed storage solutions and get to work.

Charged at £45 per hour or
£40 per hour for a booking
of 4+ hours.

Out of hours (pre-9am and post-5pm) and weekends are charged at £60 per hour.

Good to knows

Storage solutions

If storage solutions are needed, these will be agreed with you and invoiced at cost to you on completion of the project.

Removal of rubbish or waste

Removal of rubbish or waste can be taken to a local recycling centre for an additional cost.

Removal of cluttered items

Removal of cluttered items will be taken away and given to local charity shops or homeless organisations. â€‹Larger items, such as furniture will be discussed based on size and removal location.

Selling items

Once we've categorised everything, there might be some items you wish to sell to make some extra cash. If this is the case, they will be your responsibility to sell - but I can guide you in the right direction.

Travel

I'm based just outside of Pocklington, East Yorkshire. Travel is free for the first 20 miles, then charged at 50p per mile thereafter. â€‹If paid for parking is required, this will be agreed with you and invoiced at cost to you on completion of the project.

What is
Death Cleaning?

'Swedish Death Cleaning' or 'Death Cleaning' is a gentle, mindful approach to decluttering that focuses on making thoughtful decisions about the things you no longer need, use or want.

Despite the name, it isn’t really about death - it’s about living more intentionally.

By reducing what no longer serves you, your home becomes easier to live in now, and easier for others to manage in the future.

It’s not about getting rid of everything. It’s about keeping what you love, use and need, and creating a space that feels calmer, clearer and more supportive of the life you want to live. It also encourages you to pass on or give away possessions while you’re still here, so you can see them appreciated and enjoyed by others.

Death Cleaning can be especially helpful during big life changes, or when you simply want to feel more in control of your surroundings. I support you through the process in a clear, steady way, helping you make decisions without pressure and at a pace that suits you.

Lydia's visits to me were marvellous - so much achieved and with such a considerate, energetic and thorough de-clutterer! I cannot recommend Lydia enough for her help - she cleared so much, reorganised all and took everything away to recycling of one kind and another. She is punctual, reliable, courteous, friendly, non- judgemental and trustworthy.

In my view Lydia's visits represented tremendous value for money - an investment in my home,
my peace of mind and my freedom to use my time on more enjoyable pursuits than 'tidying up' !

I count myself so lucky to have found Lydia! Don't hesitate - it is so worth it to find such an easy and successful way to achieve a more calm and organised home space in the company of such a delightful and professional person.
Thank you Lydia!
